Did You Know? There is a lot of health information going around. Most of the useful information is ignored as it seems everyone is looking for the "next best thing" or a shortcut.
With the passing of legendary teacher Coach John Wooden, I am reminded of a quote of his that is applicable to this situation.
He said, most people are looking for the next best thing even though they have not mastered the basics. The next best thing is no replacement for a solid foundation based on sound principles and proven therapies.
When it comes to health, the two most influential areas are exercise and nutrition. The basic of both are as follows: Exercise, there are three components. Aerobic exercises for endurance, resistance exercises for strength and stretching and posture for flexibility and structure. Of the three stretching and posture is probable the most important as you can build strength and endurance into a flexible properly aligned body. Building strength and endurance in a tight or misaligned body will create a tighter and more misaligned body.
Nutrition: Two simple principles. Fuel your body with what it needs that will build health, facilitate repair and prevent problems. This would include fruits and vegetables, whole grains and legumes. To make this all work together a proper environment is needed and this is the role of water. Water is the solution where all this take place. Not enough water and the process can be compromised. If you focused on these two areas and addressed them daily, 70 percent of the problems people go to doctors for can be avoided. Walking 5 days per week for 2 miles will lessen the risk of heart disease by 50 percent. Eating lots of fruits and vegetables can prevent cancer and digestive problems. Did you know the most powerful drug you will ever put in your body is food and the best thing you can do for your body is exercise? It is that simple. Master the basic and you will find that the "next best thing" exist with you already!
