CLEAR THE CLUTTER by Dennis Buckley, DC
So the New Year is here and I am sure you have reflected on what needs to be different from last year or the year before. Why hasn't anything changed? You know you need to update your life. Some habits need to change. Perhaps you actually started to work on these things prior to the New Year to hit the ground running.
The question remains. Why hasn't it worked? Perhaps, before you employ new habits, new attitudes, new actions, you need to make room for them!
Let's say you bought a new car and wanted to take really good care of it. You looked at your garage and it is so full you can't get the car in. You would first need to go through the garage and clean it out. Going through the garage you find lots of things. Unfinished projects, trash, broken appliances, empty boxes, more junk, etc.....you would have to get rid of the things that were not needed or no longer were essential to make room for the car. You clean out the garage, repackage things, condense, throw away, give away, haul away unnecessary items and organize the rest. The garage that could not fit the new car now has room and it is organized. I'm sure at some time in your life you did a major clean up and remembered how good it made you feel to be organized? Now you not only have a clean organized garage but the new car can fit in it to protect it.
Your mind is like that garage. What do you have stored in it? Do you have promises of hope and prosperity or doom and gloom? Before you put in new habits, new goals, new ideas, you might need to clear the clutter first.
What are the thoughts in your head? How do you see the world? Do you see yourself in the world or the world in you? Do you see a problem in every opportunity or an opportunity in every problem? Do you see good in people or the bad in people? Is your universe abundant or lacking?
These questions can be the clutter in your mind that can block your new intentions. We need to clear this clutter to make room for new possibilities. Everything in the universe is created twice; Once in your mind as a thought or idea and then again manifest in the physical universe. Our thoughts are so powerful that they create a cascade of events. Our thoughts control our actions. Our actions create our habits, our habits create our character and our character creates our destiny.
This is the time to take a hard look at your thoughts and your habits. If your new years resolution is improved health, then you must first examine your habits. Do you exercise, eat right, get proper rest, have a good posture, have a positive attitude and have a properly functioning spine and nervous system? Where are you lacking? To get the health you want you may need to clear out the bad habits. Smoking, drinking, too much TV, coffee, candy etc....
Make room for new possibilities by clearing out the clutter. If you find this difficult start with something easy. Clean out a closet, give the clothes to charities, and accomplish the goal to get the habits in place. Clean out your car, your office, your garage, your room, your cupboards, get the new energy in motion. Then sit down with yourself and give yourself credit first for the good things you've done by writing them down. Then write down what you need to work on. Identify actions steps to create that reality.
A goal is a dream that hasn't happened yet. You must take action to make it real. Outcomes, (weight loss, stop smoking, run a 10K) are not actions. Actions would be, call the doctor to make appointment for a physical. Buy new running shoes. Start walking 45 minutes per day 6 days per week. Get rid of all ash trays and matches from around house.
Under each goal write out the steps you need to do and then do them, consistently and systematically.
By eliminating the clutter, putting in new habits, you will create a new you. Make the 2007 model of you the best ever.
