SO WHAT! By Dennis R. Buckley, DC

All of us have a past. Stuff has happened in our lives. These events can be a great help in our future or they can be an anchor to weigh us down. The choice is ours.

When you meet people for the first time you get what is called a first impression. Usually it falls into one of two categories. These people:

1. They are going somewhere. 2. They are going nowhere.

Those going somewhere talk about the future and its promise. They are usually optimistic and positive. Those going nowhere live in the past. They may be negative and pessimistic, and it holds them back.

These people, (or maybe yourself) constantly bring up the past and throw it in front of themselves explaining the WHY'S of their life.

I had a troubled childhood. I was abused. I was made fun of. My parents got divorced. We were poor. I never had the nice things everyone else had. I was ugly. My ears were too big. I wasn't smart enough. I live in the wrong part of town. I had an old car. My bosses hated me. Others are out to get me. And on and on and on . . . ..

SO WHAT? What has that have to do with today and the incredible opportunities you have today?

The past can teach us a lot but does not predict the future. You hold the final say.

SO WHAT if those things happened to you. Are they still happening except in the picture screen of your mind?

Realize this. Yesterday is finite. Things did happen and some of them were unfair, unnecessary, unbelievable, and possibly untrue. Some things that happened to some people are terrible and no one should have to be abused, physically or verbally, sexually assaulted, abandoned, made fun of or made to feel inferior. There is no advocating for that at all but unfortunately it does happen.

The key is, "Are these past events going to continue to be replayed in your mind?"

Yes, yesterday is finite, you cannot change it. Tomorrow is infinite. You can change your tomorrows by your thoughts and actions today.

Yesterday is a cancelled check. Tomorrow is a promissory note. Today is hard cash and how will you spend the next 86,400 seconds is entirely up to you. Will you wallow in the finite of your past, it didn't happen then, why would it happen today; or will you create and attract to you a new future with new actions, new thoughts, new adventures and new possibilities?

So you say your past was hard. SO WHAT! Get the SO WHATS out of your life, get out of the limited past and experience the unlimited future today.

Next time some one blames the past for today's challenges just think SO WHAT. I have the power to meet today's challenges with a new attitude, a new way of thinking and new possibilities.
