MID YEAR CHECK-UP by Dennis R. Buckley, DC
It's July 1st and 6 months have passed by. That mean ½ of the year is gone. If it is true for you as it is for me, it went by way too fast.
Back in December or January we all took inventory and decided in 2007 some changes needed to be made. It could be in regards to one's physicals health, relationships, business, spirituality, replacing bad habits or whatever aspect of your life you were dissatisfied with.
Well 6 months later how are you doing? I look back and see some great progress. Other areas I am still stuck. With this mid-year review you can get back on track with the reprogramming of yourself.
Reprogramming? What are we computers? In some ways yes. Change is difficult because inscribed in our psyche are habits. For good or bad our habits make or break us. Most of us want to get rid of habits that do not serve our greater good or allow us to achieve our goals.
The problem is change is initially resisted by the brain. Change is tough. Ask anyone who has tried to quit smoking. What we need to do is not try to get rid of old habits but put new habits in place.
I usually do not sell anything in this newsletter but I must make you aware of a new book that has just come out by Dr. Sam Alibrando, a licensed clinical psychologist, titled, "Follow The Yellow Brick Road: How to change for the better when life gives you its worst."
From the book comes the following:
"This book is for people who want to change and grow. One of the most powerful ways to learn new habits and truly change is through experience. Dorothy did not develop Scarecrow-knowing, Tin Man-heart and Lion-courage from a book. It was not from a lecture that Dorothy discovered her wizard was a fraud and that if she faced her scary witch, the witch would melt. She learned these valuable life lessons along the Yellow Brick Road."
This book gets right to the heart of change and how to do it. Its analogy to the story we all know, 'The Wizard of Oz', is pure genius. I think you will all relate to the analogy because we know the story so well. If not, rent it and watch it again as a refresher course in life skills.
Dr. Alibrando's web site is: www.yellowbrickroad-book.com
I think this is a valuable tool to help one when they find themselves in a place they do not understand such as Dorothy did when she was in OZ. We all need help along the way. No one goes his or her way alone. In improving ourselves we must be able to subjectively and objectively see where we are at.
Take this time to reflect on the past 6 months and get back on track to manifest the changes you wish to secure to improve your quality and quantity of this precious gift we call life. The investment of time will repay you ten-fold.
