Go Green in 08
by Dennis Buckley

It has finally become fashionable and politically correct to be ecologically minded these days. Everywhere you look and read the buzz word is "green."

Cars are going green by being hybrids, running on alternative fuels, and being more efficient.

You can green your house with lighting, recyclable materials, solar energy, efficient appliances, and recycling your trash.

Businesses have found that going green is not only good for the environment but for the bottom line as well.

Yes it is finally cool to be "green."

All around us we see responses to the preservation of mother earth. But what about you?

Are you going green personally and internally?

Is your body a toxic environment of incredible stress, bad habits, anger, revenge, and unethical/illegal behavior? Does that describe part or all of you?

Maybe it is time to go green internally to clean up this "toxic" container to coincide with or continue the need to preserve our planet by first preserving ourselves.

Recently the Milken Institute of Santa Monica came out with a report recently that stated the US wastes over $1 Trillion dollars each year because we do not take care of ourselves and we don't practice health prevention.

The health care system as we know it in this country, get sick go to the doctor, is in no way capable of correcting this. It is a sickness and injury system and health promotion and prevention is not as substantial as it should. Take into consideration the third leading cause of preventable death in the US is medical malpractice behind cigarettes and alcohol and you can see that it is in fact adding to this problem.

The solution to this dilemma lies within each and every one of us to take responsibility for our own lives and health. This is the new "health care" plan. It is simple and effective.

Exercise daily for at least 50 minutes. Walk, run, bike, dance, swim; get your body in motion. Get off the couch, get away from the TV or computer and get moving.

Eat a nutritious balance of fruits, vegetables, grains, lean meats and lots of water. Think of a rainbow of colors of produce and eliminate high sugar, addictive snack foods. Also limit your portions. Get proper rest to heal your body. You need at least 7 to 8 hours of proper rest so your body can repair itself. Start and end your day with something positive.

Have proper posture in all your activities. How you sit, stand, sleep, lift and move, all can make your movements easier or more difficult. With poor posture you have to work harder and you will wear out faster

Have a positive attitude. The cells of your body react to your attitude. Happy person, happy cells, healthy cells. Angry person, unhappy cells, unhealthy cells. You determine each day whether or not it will be good or bad. See the opportunity in all of your life events. Function from a mindset that it is better to be kind than right in dealing with each other.

One of the best and most important thing you can do is to eliminate the toxins from your body. Eliminate bad habits such as smoking, excess alcohol, eliminate sodas and artificial sweeteners and products that are processed, loaded with preservative and are addictive. Clean the toxins from the container. Also evaluate what you feed your mind. It can cloud your view of the world and pollute your thoughts.

These activities are simple but highly effective. They are easy to do but also easy not to do. The key is consistency. Each day you have a clean slate and you have the power of choice. In your choice lies your future.

So go green this next year and as you change internally and personally, everything around you will change externally. Commit to a change for the better. Help the environment as you help your self.
