"THE CULPRIT AND THE CURE" by Dennis R. Buckley, DC
Each coin has two sides, heads and tails. Have you ever seen an inside that didn't have an outside? An up without a down? In regards to health and wellness within one concept is a problem and a solution.
In the past decade there has been published, monumental amounts of information on the benefits of regular exercise and proper nutrition. Unfortunately what we know and what we do is far apart.
We are besieged as a nation with chronic preventable diseases that cause premature disability and death. Some of the leading causes of death are cardiovascular disease, cancers, respiratory disease, diabetes, flu/pneumonia, Alzheimers, and of course medical malpractice.
The bad news is that most of these chronic diseases are lifestyle related. The good news is that they are preventable. It is estimated that 91% of the cases of diabetes are preventable; 82% of heart disease is preventable; 70% of stroke is preventable; and 71% of cancer is preventable.
So as poor lifestyle sets the stage for chronic diseases, a healthy lifestyle can reverse and/or prevent these chronic conditions. Those who eat primarily a vegetarian diet, exercise regularly, have a normal blood pressure, are not diabetic and maintain a normal weight can have an extra 20 quality years of lifespan compared to those who don't. This also compresses morbidity at the end of life by 75%. Let's face it, we are all born with a terminal prognosis, one day our body is going to die. But we can maximize the experience and reduce pain and suffering through personal responsibility and wise choices. This can drastically reduce health care cost over a lifetime.
So if you do the following three things starting today, you can have the best chance of a quality life;
1. Don't Smoke 2. Get 30 minutes or more of moderate physical activity every day. 3. Eat a healthy diet.
You choices determine whether your lifestyle will be the Culprit or the Cure.
