Your Posture is Your Back's Best Friend by Dennis R. Buckley, DC
It is more than likely in your life that you will experience episodes of back pain. It is one of the most common health related problems along with the common cold.
Most back pain can be traced back to poor posture and body position mostly at the work place. Hours of sitting places an incredible amount of pressure on your spine. We were designed to be in motion most of the time, not sitting.
Before you reach for the pain killers do yourself a favor and consider these ways to reduce and prevent back pain.
Maintain a healthy weight. 66 percent of the population is overweight which places extra stress on your spine. Eat correctly and exercise regularly.
Bend with your knees, and not with your back.
Support your lower back while sitting. Put a small pillow or back support at the bottom of your spine to maintain the normal curve.
Have a good mattress. You spend 1/3 of your life asleep. Sleep on your back or side with a pillow between your knees.
Strengthen your core which includes your abdomen and back muscles through exercises designed to do so.
Stretch and strengthen your legs. Tight hamstrings place extra stress on your back. Weak quads or hamstrings affects your pelvic position and can also place extra stress on your back
Manage your stress levels. Exercise is the best stress reliever. Get proper rest and eat healthy.
Have good posture, Pull back your shoulders, push your chest out, hold your head high and be aware of your body position in all your activities.
Doctors of chiropractic are posture experts and can help you achieve the best body position and structure to relieve the stress on your spine and frame.
Do these things regularly and you can promote your own health and prevent future problems.
