Power lines, transmitters, electrical wiring and appliances create electric and magnetic fields, invisible lines of force that surround and electrical device. We are now living in a dense sea of electrical energy waves, called electro-magnetic frequency (EMF) which is estimated to be 100 million times greater than that of a hundred years ago. Compounding the problem is the explosion of wireless technology such as cell phones, Bluetooth, PDA's, Wireless Internet, Wi-Fi and powerful microwave towers that are required for transmission. The wireless world emits a particular spectrum of electromagnetic frequency that has its own damaging effects on living systems. The human race has never been exposed to such a massive amount of electromagnetic radiation. Our balance is now being thrown into turmoil by an entirely unnatural level of electrical activity, seriously compromising our body's ability to properly function.

There have been numerous studies that have shown that the harmful effects of EMF on the immune system, enzyme synthesis, endocrine system, nervous system, learning, moods, and behavioral patterns.

What can you do? Can you live without your car? Probably not so if you are going to use a car, use it safely. Wear your seat belt, obey the traffic laws, don't drive after drinking or if impaired, keep your car in good working order and pay attention to what you are doing.

The same goes for cell phones and other technologies. Could you live without them? Probably, but probably not as they have become so much a part of our lives and how we communicate. So if you must use them, use them safely. Here is what you can do.

1. Do not allow children to use a cell phone except for emergencies. The developing organs of a fetus or child are the most likely to be sensitive to any possible effects of exposure to electromagnetic fields. 2. While communicating using your cell phone, try to keep the cell phone away from the body as much as possible. The amplitude of the electromagnetic field is one fourth the strength at a distance of two inches and fifty times lower at three feet. Use a speakerphone or Bluetooth headset, which has less than 1/100th of the electromagnetic emission of a normal cell phone. 3. Avoid using your cell phone in places like a bus, where you can passively expose others to your phone's electromagnetic fields. 4. Avoid carrying your cell phone on your body at all times. Do not keep it near your body at night such as under the pillow or on a bedside table, particularly if pregnant. 5. If you must carry it on you, it is preferable that the keypad is positioned toward your body and the back is positioned toward the outside of your body. 6. Use you cell phone to establish contact or for conversations lasting a few minutes as the biological effects are directly related to the duration of exposure. 7. Switch sides regularly while communicating on your cell phone to spread out your exposure. 8. Avoid using your phone if the signal is weak or when moving at high speeds as in a car or train, as this automatically increases power to a maximum as the phone repeatedly attempts to connect to a new relay antenna. 9. When possible, communicate via text message rather than making a call. 10. Choose a device that has the lowest SAR (specific absorption rate) which is a measure of the strength of the magnetic field absorbed by the body. These are available on the internet.
